See all of Smoke’s reports →The Utica Blue Sox pounded out 18 hits and bolted to a 7-0 lead through two innings on their way to a 16-10 win at East Field on Thursday. Glens Falls matched the Blue Sox nearly hit-for-hit with 16 of its own but undid the effort with eight errors that handed Utica a run of unearned runs. The Dragons scratched across five in the ninth to make it respectable, but the deficit was never in danger, dropping Glens Falls to 13-21.
Tyler Worth was a one-man rally for the Dragons, going 4-for-5 with four RBI on a two-run single in the fifth and a two-run double in the ninth. Billy Barthel launched a two-run homer in the ninth and finished 2-for-4, while Rene Vega, Giorgio Pantepinto and Taye Robinson each drove in a run. Utica spread the damage around: Anthony Perritano went 4-for-5 and scored three times, Ian Wirtz singled home a pair and added a sacrifice fly for three RBI, and Connor Jones and Conor McCartney each knocked in two. Utica scored twice in the first and five more in the second and never trailed.
Austin Rhodes earned the win with four innings of two-run ball, striking out five. Billy Kind took the loss for Glens Falls, charged with seven runs on six walks over 1 2/3 innings. The Dragons stay home to host the Saugerties Stallions on Friday.
