See all of Smoke’s reports →Glens Falls turned a 1-0 deficit into a 4-1 lead with a four-run fourth inning, and Amsterdam answered by scoring in five separate innings on the way to an 8-5 win Tuesday at Shuttleworth Park. The Mohawks out-hit the Dragons 11-6 and pushed across runs in the first, fourth, sixth, seventh and eighth. The loss dropped the Dragons to 13-24.
Robert Melo did the heavy lifting for Amsterdam, going 2-for-4 with three RBI on a run-scoring single in the fourth and a two-run double in the sixth that put the Mohawks ahead for good. Taylor Belza homered to right in the first, Andrew Ezell singled home two in the fourth, Raul Rodriguez doubled in a run in the seventh, and Evan Taylor homered to left in the eighth. The Dragons packed almost everything into one frame: Taye Robinson doubled to left center to score Tyler McKillop and Jack Ploppert, Robinson came home on a wild pitch, and Alex Kerr singled in Derek Diaz for a 4-1 edge. Will Rudolph's sixth-inning single scored Giorgio Pantepinto for the fifth run. Glens Falls drew nine walks but collected just six hits.
Grant Nicholson earned the win with 2.1 innings of relief and four strikeouts, and Derek Duval struck out the side in a perfect ninth for the save. Jay Creighton took the loss after allowing one run over three innings. The Dragons return to East Field to host Saugerties on Thursday.
