See all of Smoke’s reports →Glens Falls built a nine-run cushion and then hung on for dear life Thursday at Cantine Field, outlasting the Saugerties Stallions 9-8. The Dragons scored all nine of their runs in the first five innings — a run in the first, four in the third and four more in the fifth — before Saugerties clawed back with a three-run seventh and a five-run ninth that fell one swing short. Fourteen hits and a five-RBI night from Tyler Worth improved the Dragons to 11-18.
Worth was the engine, going 4-for-5 with a double and driving in five, capping a barrage that also included Taye Robinson (2-for-4, two RBI) and Tyler McKillop, who crossed the plate three times from the top of the order. Derek Diaz added two hits and an RBI, and Rene Vega chipped in a hit and a run. Saugerties nearly stole it late behind Michael Hanna, who plated four on a two-run single in the seventh and a two-run triple in the ninth. Danny Surowiec and Steven Ramirez each singled home runs during the frantic ninth-inning rally.
Billy Kind spun four scoreless to open, and Jay Creighton followed with two hitless innings, staking Glens Falls to its 9-0 edge. The bullpen made it interesting — Saugerties strung together eight runs over the final three frames — but Dominick Weidtman recorded the last out with the tying run aboard. The Dragons return home Friday to host the Stallions in a rematch.
