See all of Smoke’s reports →Utica scored three times in the ninth inning to erase a one-run deficit and beat Glens Falls 11-9 on Saturday at East Field. The Dragons out-hit the Blue Sox 12-11, led 4-1 after one inning and carried a 9-8 lead into the final frame, but the Blue Sox tied it on a wild pitch and pushed across two more. The loss dropped the Dragons to 13-27.
Derek Diaz did most of the damage for Glens Falls, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and three runs scored. His three-run double in the first put the Dragons in front and Jack Rigabar singled him home an at-bat later. Diaz doubled in another run in the sixth, and Alex Kerr followed with a two-run double to tie it at 7-7. Utica had answered with a six-run fourth, keyed by Boden Fernsler's three-run homer, Kaden Frei's RBI double and Anthony Perritano's two-run single. Kevin Francella went 4-for-5 with two RBI, Fernsler drove in four and Perritano finished with three. Billy Barthel doubled home Diaz in the eighth and Shane Hoover singled in Barthel to put Glens Falls back ahead. Taye Robinson and Jack Ploppert each had two hits, and Tyler McKillop walked three times and scored twice.
Jay Creighton opened with three innings of one-run ball and five strikeouts. Kyle Fives took the loss, charged with three runs over two innings. Michael Furst got the win and Johnny Amato struck out three in the ninth for the save. The Dragons close the regular season at Saugerties on Sunday.
