See all of Smoke’s reports →Anthony Lino's pinch-hit two-run double in the top of the ninth pulled the Dragons within one, but Matt Kurek struck out the next two hitters to lock down a 7-6 Mohawk Valley win at Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday night. Glens Falls out-hit the DiamondDawgs 11-11 in the wash but stranded 15 baserunners and never led, dropping the Dragons to 1-5 and stretching the losing streak to three.
Mohawk Valley jumped starter RJ Ensel for two in the first on a Joe Crenshaw RBI double and a Connor Scanlan fielder's-choice run, then added two more in the fourth on another Crenshaw two-run double and a fifth-inning Jake Haarde RBI single. Crenshaw finished 3-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles, and Scanlan went 2-for-4 with three RBI of his own, including a two-run single in the sixth that pushed the lead to 7-2. Taye Robinson got the Dragons back in it with a solo homer in the sixth, and Glens Falls rallied for two in the seventh on RBI knocks from Tyler Worth and David Yorke before Lino's ninth-inning shot off the wall pulled it to 7-6. Tyler Worth went 3-for-5, Kaden Barmer and Tyler McKillop each added two hits, and McKillop drove in the second-inning run.
RJ Ensel (L, 0-1) gave up nine hits and five runs (four earned) over five. Paden Mather followed with three innings of two-run, six-strikeout relief. Glens Falls returns to East Field on Monday night to host Saugerties at 7:00.
